Cytology is a medical specialty that does not cure but quickly, effectively and relatively inexpensively recognizes precancerous conditions as well as cancer.
The Cytologist examines under the microscope cells from diseased areas of the human body in order to diagnose whether it is a form of cancer, a beginning dysplasia (precancerous lesion) or a benign disease.
The examinations are performed at the Cytology Department:
- Examination of vaginal, extracervical and endocervical secretion (Pap test)
- Cytological examination of breast secretion.
- Cytological examination of sputum, bronchial secretions.
- Cytological examination of urine.
- Cytological examination of fluid cavities, such as Ascites, Pleurisy and Pericardium.
Fine needle punctures (FNA) in superficial organs such as: breast, thyroid gland, lymph nodes, salivary glands, soft tissue
